The Luneta Park
Manila

A majestic
setting built in honor of the Philippines' natinal hero, Dr. Jose
Rizal. Luneta Park used to be called Bagumbayan Field is the place
where Dr. Rizal was executed by a Spanish military firing squad
at early dawn on December 30, 1896. He was executed for spreading
ideals of revolution against Spanish rule. Dr. Rizal wrote his most
famous poem "Mi Ultimo Adios" (My Last Farewell) on the
eve of his execution.
The
Rizal Monument, which serves as a marker on where Dr. Rizal was
executed, is manned by two honor guards 24 hours a day. The monument
used to house the remains of Dr. Rizal before it was moved to the
family's estate in Calamba, Laguna.

Bonifacio
Shrine

Located across Manila
City Hall along Concepcion Street. Selected periods of Bonifacio's
bibliography which represent the events and personalities involved
in molding our history.

Quezon
Memorial Circle/ Shrine
The tallest structure
in the city which pierces 66 meters to the sky, is a fitting tribute
to the founder of Quezon City and one of the country's greatest
statesmen - Pres. Manuel L. Quezon. The monument which was built
in the center of the 27 hectare rotunda park also boasts a museum
housing priceless Quezonian items plus the added attraction of the
remains of this great man laid to rest in a bronze casket and marble
niche.

People Power Monument

A snap presidential
election was held with Ferdinand Marcos and Corazon Aquino in contention.
Marcos was proclaimed winner by the National Assembly despite widespread
protest. This led to the bloodless People Power Revolution on February
27, 1986 that ended the 20-year rule of Marcos.

EDSA
Shrine

Built by the grateful
Filipino people in honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary for her protection
and guidance during the people power EDSA revolution of 1986, which
led to the downfall of the Marcos dictatorship and the return of
democracy.

Mabini
Shrine

The Shrine houses the
remains and personal belongings of the late revolutionary hero and
"Brains of the Katipunan," Apolinario Mabini. Mabini is
also known as the "Sublime Paralytic" who, inspite of
his physical handicap, fired nationalism in the Filipinos and urged
them to unite, with the sheer power of his writings. He wrote fiery
articles against Spanish atrocities in revolutionary papers. His
wrtings and memorabilia are kept here. His tomb lies at the middle
of the site where a replica of the house where he was born also
stands.

Corregidor
Bataan

Corregidor,
a national shrine, is an island fortress also known as "The
Rock". This was the last bastion to fall to the invading Japanese
in 1942. The place acquired immense significance as a symbol of
the determined resistance of its Filipino and American defenders.
Above photo shows one of the cannons that broods silently over the
landscape which was once denuded by bombardment.

RIZAL'S HOUSE in Calamba,
Laguna

It is in here where
the national hero Dr. Jose Rizal was born on June 19, 1861 and spent
his childhood his family.

Battle
of Mactan

A Portuguese named Ferdinand
Magellan rediscovered the Philippines on March 17, 1521. Magellan
accidentally saw the Philippines on his voyage to find Moluccas
or Spice Island. Such serendipity! Lapu-lapu, a village chieftain,
fought strongly against the intruders in the Battle of Mactan where
Magellan was killed.

Intramuros
(Fort Santiago)

Spending his last few
years on earth, Dr. Jose P. Rizal was incarcerated here in Fort
Santiago, Manila for a month before he was executed on December
30, 1895 in Luneta Park.

Aguinaldo
Shrine

Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo,
the 1st President of the Philippine Republic declared Philippine
Independence from Spain on June 12, 1898. Aguinaldo is best remembered
with his famous line: "We may lose hope in winning this battle
for freedom because of inadequate force in terms of weapon, but
one thing is never lost, our dream to die for the cause of true
independence. This is where the Philippine flag was first raised.

Bay

Manila Bay, also famous
for its nostalgic sunset, turned into a massive battlefield between
United States and Spain. The Americans defeated the Spanish fleet
led by Admiral Patricio Montojo on May 1, 1898.

Shrine

Emilio Aguinaldo was
declared the first president of the Philippine Republic on January
1, 1899 at the Cavite Shrine in Cavite. The Philippine Republic
is the first Republic in Asia.

na Bato

Here a group of Filipino
soldiers under Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo hid from the American soldiers
who ran after them. The first President, Emilio Aguinaldo declared
the government's transformation into a Republican Government thru
the Pact of Biak na Bato in June 1898.

Church

The Constitution of
the Republican Government was drafted on September 15, 1898 in the
Barasoain Church. It is also known as the Malolos Constitution because
the church is located in Malolos, Bulacan.

Mount Samat

The town of Pilar,
Bataan takes pride of having Mt. Samat's gigantic cross also known
as the "Dambana ng Kagitingan" (Altar of Valor). Erected
in April 1942, the cross symbolizes the heroic & courageous
defense made by the fatigued, hungry & sick Filipino and American
soldiers in regaining our freedom during World War II.

Landing

“I SHALL RETURN!”---
Gen. Mc Arthur’s famous line as he promised the Filipinos
he would return immediately to free the Filipinos from colonizers.
The Filipinos were filled with another big hope when Mc Arthur finally
returned in October 1944 landing in Leyte.

Marcela N. Agoncillo
Historical Landmark (National Landmark)

The birthplace of Marcela
N. Agoncillo who was known as the marker of the first official Filipino
Flag during the Philippine revolution against the Spanish authorities.
The different flags of the revolution are also prominently displayed.

Palace
In The Sky

Originally designed to be the presidential
guest house of former president Ferdinand Marcos, this complex was
not completed. It is, however, now open to the public as a vantage
area for viewing a 360 degree profile of Taal Volcano. It is within
the Tagaytay environs.
